SUPPLEMENT !!
|
 |
With the supplement "An Anthropological Look at Objects," we open a
space for fieldwork carried out in university programs of training and research. These ethnographic exercises have a dual value that we hope this new series makes clear: on the one hand, a variety of approaches to reality; and on the other, since the studies were produced in the shared spaces of university training and research groups, the enrichment that comes with collaborative vision and shared effort. Our hope is that this first and suggestive supplement stimulates the submission of other practical exercises rescued from fieldnotes and class presentations.read supplement

This article presents, through the results of a fieldwork done in a space of a Youth
Association, the importance of the ethnographic methodology practices. What do
we mean talking about participant observation, qualitative interviewing,
transcription, field notes, etc.? This article doesn't go deeply into the own
discipline's debates concerning the correct use of those practices. Nevertheless, it
comes from the personal experience of the author, who shows her particular
perception of the ethnographic methodology. This theoretical perspective that has
followed her in this work has also targeted the research. Using a case study, this
article reveals how some kinds of values are configured and characterized into an
associative youth space. The social relationships, into this place, get manifested by
behaviours that make possible to find the existence of a cultural model system. This
system is determinated by behavior moral principles that govern our identities and
our being in the world.

This article presents a reflection on the urban youth violence in Lima, which is
considered one of the most important conflicts over the past years. Apart from the
journalistic articles, there are not many investigations related to this theme. During
the past years local newspapers and television have reported extensively on his
issue, usually recounting stories of young gang members or "pandilleros" in the
Peruvian capital city but avoiding a in-depth analysis of the situation and the real meaning of
"pandillera/o". The analysis is based on the experience lived with the
young gang members of Los Chacales. On this document we will try to analyze the
mechanisms of the power and how that power is related to the youth gangs and the
violence associated with them, as well as deconstruct this "phenomenon" through
intensive fieldwork.
